LCIF (Lions Club International Foundation)
The foundation was established in 1968 and is the charitable arm of Lions Clubs
International Donations to LCIF support grants in these categories ($356 million in
grants since 1972);

Melvin Jones Fellowship
LCIF honors donors with a variety of awards and forms of recognition. The highest form
of recognition is the "Melvin Jones Fellowship." Usually awarded by a club to an
individual; however, individuals may contribute toward a fellowship of their own.
Sight First
In 1990, Lions established SightFirst, a $143 million global initiative to fight the major
causes of preventable and reversible blindness. Since its inception, SightFirst has
approved $174 million in grants:
- Provided more than 3.2 million cataract surgeries
- Build or expanded more than 136 eye hospitals
- Treated more than 36 million people to prevent river blindness
- Improve eye care in dozens of countries around the world
Other sight-related activities
- Provide more than 600,000 professional glaucoma screenings and 25,000
corneal transplants each year
- Establish and support a majority of the world's eye banks, and hundreds of
clinics, hospitals and eye research centers worldwide
- Collect more than 5 million pairs of unwanted eyeglasses for distribution in
developing countries each year
- Provide quality eye care, eyeglasses, Braille-writers, large print text, white canes
and guide dogs for thousands of people each year
